What type of photography do you specialize in?
We specialize in professional headshots, creative portraits, and custom personal branding photography. Whether you need a classic corporate headshot, lifestyle images for your brand, or a fresh portrait session, We tailor each shoot to the specific needs of each client!
Where are you located and do you travel for shoots?
We are located in New Haven County, Connecticut, but yes — we do travel! A travel fee may apply, depending on the location of the session but we are very open to traveling! We can discuss this further during your consultation call!
How do i book a session?
Booking a session with KSPN Photography is simple. Just head to the top of this page, click on the CONTACT tab in the menu, and fill out the contact form. You can also email us directly at kneysmith@kspnphotography.com. We will discuss your needs, schedule a date, and confirm with a signed contract and deposit.
What are the differences between a headshot, a portrait, and a branding session?
Headshots are close-up, professional photos that are typically used by business professionals for a website, social media, LinkedIn, resumes, or company bios.
Portraits are more artistic and expressive. We aim to show your personality and essence in a creative way. We offer Portraits for individuals, couples, or families who are looking to celebrate a special occasion or just because… With our portraits, we take the time to learn what the client is looking for and then we aim to exceed expectations in an artistic way, all while keeping true to who our client is.
Branding sessions are designed for entrepreneurs and business professionals who need a full set of cohesive images to show off their brand. Typical use of these images include websites, social media, and marketing.
Do You offer virtual consultations before booking?
Yes! We offer free pre-session consultations via Zoom, FaceTime or phone call to discuss goals, creative ideas, and any questions you may have.
What should i wear for my session?
You can wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and confident BUT, for the best images, it is recommended that you aim for solid, neutral colors that contain subtle textures. For an added bonus, it is recommended you choose colors that complement the scenery of the location we will be shooting at.
Can I bring outfit changes?
Absolutely! You are welcome to bring multiple outfits. We recommend 2-3 outfit changes, depending on your session type.
Can I bring props or personal items?
Yes! Props that relate to your brand or personality are always welcome. This includes books, tools, products, or even your laptop. For sessions involving children, you can bring a few of their favorite toys. This will be discussed during your free consultation call.
How long does a typical session last?
It depends on your session type:
Headshot sessions: About 30 to 60 minutes (Depending on the amount of people receiving headshots.)
Portrait sessions: About 1-2 hours.
Branding sessions: About 2-3 hours (Depending on your unique situation.)
Will you help me with posing and expressions?
100% Yes! No prior modeling experience is needed. We will guide you through poses, angles and expressions so you look confident and natural!
Can I bring someone with me to the session?
Absolutely! Feel free to bring a parent, friend, assistant, or a partner for support throughout your session. My wife is present with me 99% of the time to help with the photoshoot process, as well as to provide support and comfort to female clients.
What if I feel nervous in front of the camera?
It is totally normal to feel nervous in front of the camera! You may even feel a bit awkward, trust me, we’ve been there. We aim to create a relaxed, fun environment that allows each client to be at ease during their session. We will guide you through the session from start to finish. The nerves usually subside pretty quickly after the start of the session!
When will I RECEIVE my photos?
This depends on which package(s) you choose, as each package has a different amount of deliverable photos assigned to them. Your final gallery will be delivered to you within 2 to 3 weeks!
How will I receive my final images?
Your final images are delivered via a private, downloadable online gallery. You will be sent a link that is password protected. You alone will have access to your personal gallery. If you wish to share the gallery with a loved one, you can share the link and password with them.
How many images will I get?
This varies by package, but all sessions include a set number of fully edited, high-resolution images. Additional images can be purchased separately!
Will the photos be retouched?
Yes, all final images include professional retouching — skin smoothing, stray hair removal, color correction, and light blemish removal. It is a natural retouching that allows you to still look like yourself in the final image.
Do I own the copyright to my photos?
KSPN Photography retains the copyright to each image, but clients receive a commercial-use license for branding and marketing. You are free to use your photos for whatever you wish to use them for. This includes websites, social media, ads, print, etc.
Can I use the images for social media, website, or print Marketing?
Absolutely, you can use the images for these purposes. In unique situations where you plan to use the images for something such as a book, product packaging, etc, please just let us know in advance!
How much do your sessions cost?
Each session is curated specifically to each client. There is a base cost associated with each session but as each client is unique and may have different requests, this causes each session to differ in pricing as well. All within reason of course!
What is included in the session fee?
All sessions include a complementary consultation call, which includes strategy and location planning, your session time, and a select number of fully edited, high-resolution digital images. During the consultation call, we will get to know each other and talk about your vision for your shoot!
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash, checks, peer-to-peer (P2P) payments such as Zelle, Venmo, Apple Cash, and Cash app. I do not accept credit cards and debit cards at this time.
Do you require a deposit to book?
Yes, a non-refundable deposit of 25% of your session fee is required to secure your date. The remaining balance is due on or before the session.
What is your cancellation/rescheduling policy?
We understand that life happens and at times, things are out of our control. Clients are allowed to reschedule their session one time, with at least 48 hour notice. All cancellations will result in a forfeiture of your 25% deposit.
How do you handle rain or bad weather on the day of a session?
The session will be rescheduled at no extra charge to the client. We can also move the session indoors if possible. We try our best to keep track of the weather leading up to outdoor sessions.
